Raspberry Pi 3 released

The Raspberry foundation released their newest model of the Raspberry Pi, the Raspberry Pi 3. It is faster than the 2 it replaces, and adds wifi and bluetooth, all for the same $35.

The addition of wifi is a big deal. No longer will you have to use one of the USB ports for a wifi dongle. The faster speed may make it fast enough to be usable as a desktop. I’ve tried out my Pi 2 as a desktop replacement, but it still wasn’t fast enough. Unfortunately, the addition of wifi increases the power requirements, the Raspberry Foundation is recommending a 2.5a power adapter.

I’m glad the Raspberry Foundation is producing these upgrades!
