#b2s 11. Map out the major events and deadlines for the upcoming school year

This is part 11 of 13 things to do before the first day of school.

Holidays have a tendency to sneak up on us. I’ve lost track of the number of times that I’ve missed out on doing something in my classroom because I didn’t know it was a holiday. What I’ve started to do is to map out all of the holidays and special events that will happen during the school year, along with due dates and deadlines to prepare the activities for those days. That way, they don’t sneak up on me, and I get to have a little fun.

There are a few sites for calendars:

• Wikipedia has a List of historical anniversaries
• And for fun, The Complete Calendar Plug-In of the World’s Fictional Holidays

This is one of those things that are fun to do, and breaks up the work week.
