Twitter tips for new users

I’ve been on Twitter for awhile, and as I look for new people to follow, it’s the little things that cause me to not follow you.

Egg for an avatar

Nothing screams newbie like the default egg avatar that Twitter gives you when you sign up. This should be the first thing you change, even before you send out your first tweet. Try to use an image of you, and don’t get too fancy with it. The image is pretty small.

No bio

Your bio introduces yourself to others, and a good bio will state your position and maybe a goal or hobby. Some people put hashtags in their bio.

Quality of tweets

Although retweets are an important aspect of Twitter, I want to know what you think and believe. If your entire Twitter usage is retweeting others, than I’m probably not going to follow you. Try to intersperse the retweets with tweets of your own.
