In honor of Minecraft’s 10th anniversary, Microsoft has created a website called Minecraft Classic. This is the original version of Minecraft released in 2009. It only works in creative mode, but you can invite up to 9 others to build with it. Unfortunately, it looks like there is no way to save your creations.
Minecraft Classic‘s limitations will bother students who have used a recent version of Minecraft. Users are limited to 32 different types of blocks, and the controls are iffy. For example, I don’t think the ability to fly is in this version.
Even so, this could be a pretty awesome site to use in your class! Students could recreate scenes and rooms from books, illustrations for their own publications, and more.
