On Monday, my PocketCHIP arrived!

It still has the plastic on the screen.

What is a PocketCHIP? It is a touchscreen and keyboard device for the CHIP $9 single board computer that also provides a battery and external access to the input/output pins on the CHIP.

This is what's in the box, which looks like the worst cardboard car ever.

In the simplest terms, anything that you would do with a Raspberry Pi you can do with a CHIP, and the PocketCHIP allows you to use the CHIP in your classroom without having to hunt down monitors, keyboards, and mice. This is the device I’ve been dreaming of for about 10-15 years.

Next Thing Company is currently taking pre-orders for the PocketCHIP for $49, and on the site it lists June as a shipping date, so you may be able to get one now and in your hands pretty quickly. I, on the other hand, waiting 13 months, but I knew what I was getting into when I backed the project on Kickstarter last May.

I’m playing with the PocketCHIP now and I can’t wait to show you what it can do!
