Online courses aren’t just for students, there are many ways teachers can take an online course to increase their knowledge and get experience. Depending on your school district and local professional development committees, you can probably get credit from online courses for licensure renewal. Courses can run the gambit from purely technical to completely educational. And the best part is that there are a lot of classes that are free or pretty inexpensive.

Course options

The following is a list of online course options available through a web browser and/or mobile app.

iTunes U is an Apple provided learning management system that requires iTunes. This limits these courses to macOS and Windows computers.

And for something completely different, courses that are offered strictly through email.

Through all of these options, you should be able to find something that interests you, and, more importantly, motivates you to complete the course. Completion rates for online courses is really low, so for your first course pick one that you are really interested in.
