Doing great work

This past week was the anniversary of the death of Steve Jobs. While some may love him, others may hate him, but no matter what, he left his mark on the world. I love this quote from him:
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”
Right now education is mired with toxic positivity, “do it for the children”, and more. I can’t control these external forces, but I can control my reaction to them. Doing great work is one way I cope.
Every morning my journal messages me with the question, “What would make today great?”. My answers are never about things outside of my control. I always enter specific action steps I can do to make today great. It may be minor, it may be major, but in all, it puts me on the path to do great work.
