Besides the rugged good looks or Ryan Reynolds, it had a very modest budget. Where most super hero movies get $150-200 million dollars, Deadpool had $58 million, which forced a tight script and cut down on the special effects, and still made a great movie (especially when you see how terrible Batman Vs. Superman was).
