Learning styles are a myth

I hate to break it to you, but the idea of learning styles is a myth. It’s one of those myths that feels so right that it’s hard to believe it’s wrong. I always thought of myself as a hands on learner, but it’s probably because I like to dive right in and learn as I go.

Learning styles are still being pushed by districts, but that energy should be directed toward something that will help the students, and not give them the impression that they can only learn one way and not another.

Being stuck in the learning styles myth perpetrates the fixed mindset, the idea that you can’t grow. The exact opposite of what we want to do in our classrooms!
