I hated doing the clickbait title, but I couldn’t think of a better one. Plus, I found it humorous. This past week I stumbled on the article Crazy: 90 Percent of People Don’t Know How to Use CTRL+F:

This week, I talked with Dan Russell, a search anthropologist at Google, about the time he spends with random people studying how they search for stuff. One statistic blew my mind. 90 percent of people in their studies don’t know how to use CTRL/Command + F to find a word in a document or web page! I probably use that trick 20 times per day and yet the vast majority of people don’t use it at all.

We sometimes take basic computer skills for granted, and just like the student who doesn’t understand the difference between control-x and control-c, there are tons of people that don’t know about control-f.1

Control-f solves the problem of finding information on a page. When pressed, that brings up a box allowing you to search for specific words on a page.

1For Mac and iOS users, replace the control key with the command key.
