History is littered with failed experiments, but these failures are what have brought us the world we have today. Cynicism aside, computers will get better at understanding people, and when that happens, who knows what will happen.

The computer calls to schedule a haircut or reserve a table, and it is able to navigate the dialog of the person receiving the call. Scary how good the computer sounds, including the ums and uhs make it sound even more life like.
